A 5G LEO (low earth orbit) satellite by Beijing-based commercial satellite company Galaxy Space passed the test of a 3-minute-video call

The picture is clear and the response is swift.

As many satellite startups plan to launch small satellites into low-Earth orbit (LEO) to provide global broadband internet services, a Chinese satellite provider now suggests the use of 5G speeds for the purpose.

The call comes as China attaches more importance to the development of the satellite-enabled mobile internet and includes the area in its “new infrastructure” construction plan, which could offer both short-term relief and a long-term boost to the economy.

Beijing-based private aerospace company Galaxy Space recently held an experimental 3-minute video call by connecting to Wi-Fi hotspots provided by a satellite terminal. Galaxy Space launched China’s first LEO 5G broadband satellite that went into orbit earlier this year.

The clear picture and swift response in the video call on Friday proved that the LEO 5G broadband satellite developed by the private startup is reliable, while a race between the world’s top economic superpowers to roll out 5G networks goes on.

The National Development and Reform Commission included the satellite internet into the “new infrastructure” list on April 20, ramping up its efforts to develop the technology.

312 meters 双江口水电站大坝 hydroelectric power station dam

The 312 meters 双江口水电站大坝 hydroelectric power station dam, the world’s highest dam, constructed by the national energy group Dadu River Company 大渡河公司 , sees the completion of 44 million cubic meters wall filling as the first phase of construction. Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station reservoir is located in the upper reaches of the Dadu River, located in Barkam, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is a key project of the National Electricity Development “13th Five-Year Plan”, features “high altitude, high dam, high ground stress, high flow rate, high slope, high cold”. The hydroelectric power station will have an installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts, with a normal reservoir level of 2,500 meters and a total reservoir capacity of 2,897 million cubic meters. The whole project consists of a dam, a flood relief building, a water diversion power generation system, and other facilities.

China’s National Blockchain Will Change the World

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-national-blockchain-change-world-182614309.html Professor Michael Sung is founder and chairman of CarbonBlue Innovations, a tech transfer platform for commercializing internationally sourced blockchain, fintech and digital finance innovation in developing countries. He is also co-director of the Fintech Research Center at the Fanhai International School of Finance at Fudan University.

This week, China will officially launch a major new blockchain initiative called the Blockchain-based Services Network (BSN). The BSN is a critical part of China’s national blockchain strategy that was announced by President Xi in late November 2019, but went largely under the radar as the simultaneous announcement of China’s digital RMB currency, called the DCEP, swept the world by storm. Only recently has the Western media recognized the significance of the BSN, which sees its mainland commercial launch April 25. The portal’s global commercial launch is scheduled for June 25.

China launched its second Type 075 amphibious assault ship, or helicopter carrier, on Wednesday in Shanghai, seven months after the first one.
The vessel, decorated with small coloured flags, was towed by tugboats to its new berth at the state-owned Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard in the afternoon. It will now be fitted out, with equipment and weapons systems as well as crew quarters, which is expected to take some months.
The launch of the helicopter carrier was celebrated as a dedication to the 71st anniversary of the establishment of the PLA Navy, on April 26. It also came two weeks after its sister ship – the first Type 075 was launched last September and was fitted out in the same shipyard – caught fire, according to Global Times, a nationalist newspaper affiliated with People’s Daily.

ExxonMobil breaks ground on its ethylene project in Huizhou

https://www.yicaiglobal.com/news/exxonmobil-usd10-billion-ethylene-plant-breaks-ground-in-south-china ExxonMobil breaks ground on its ethylene project in Huizhou, South China’s Guangdong Province, 4-22-20 during a teleconference. The project is the first wholly-owned petrochemical project invested by an American company in China, with a price tag of $10 billion.

The ethylene plant project invested in by US oil and gas giant Exxon Mobil in Huizhou in China’s southern Guangdong province, which is one of China’s national major foreign investment projects valued at USD10 billion, started construction in Huizhou Dayawan Petrochemical Industrial Park yesterday, various media reported.

Construction of the ethylene plant will unfold in two phases, with the first stage erecting an annual 1.6 million-ton capacity ethylene cracker, which is projected to finish and start operation in 2023. The project will ease China’s short supply of polyolefin used to make plastic film, and free it from over-reliance on imports of the high-performance polymer, per the reports.

Exxon Mobile chose Dayawan as the site as it is one of China’s seven main bases for the petrochemical industry and is well equipped with infrastructure and public support facilities. It also boasts a good business environment with highly efficient government and correspondingly huge support for the growth of overseas investment, said Fernando Vallina Bobes, chairman of Shanghai-based ExxonMobil China Investment.
